PATRICK`S MUM
My dear Calpornius! I think the time has gone. Our child is going to be born. Call out our midwife!
( Schodzi ze sceny, wraca z lalką na ręku .)

PATRICK`S DAD
My brave Conchessa. You`ve given the birth of a lovely boy. We should name him. Let`s call our son Patrick- from Patricius, what means FATHER.

PART II

( Wychodzi osoba z napisem: 16 YEARS LATER )

PATRICK
Who are you?

KIDNAPPER
I am the pirate.

PATRICK
What are you doing here?

KIDNAPPER
I`m going to capture you and sell as the slave. Some Irish people will pay a lot of money for such a young boy.
( Chwyta go w sieci. )

PATRICK
Help! Help!


( Wychodzi osoba z napisem IRELAND. Słychać irlandzkie melodie .)

PATRICK
( Pasie świnie i owce .)
Oh, my God! I`m so tired and hungry- so I must eat pigs swill. My greedy Irish farmer doesn`t want to give me anything to eat. He says I don`t look after his pigs and sheep very well.
My dear Lord! Help me, please!
( Układa się do snu. )

THE VOICE
Patrick! Patrick! Wake up! Wake up!

PATRICK
What was that? It must have been a dream.

THE VOICE
Patrick! Patrick! You`re not dreaming. You have to escape. There is a ship waiting for you at the seaside!

( Patryk podnosi się, zabiera swój pled, kij do podpierania się w czasie podróży i wybiega ze sceny. )


PART III

( Na scenę zostaje wniesiona dekoracja: kadłub statku i dwa rzędy fal morskich .)

PATRICK
( Podchodzi do kapitana statku. )
Can you take me with you, please?

CAPTAIN
Why are you in such a hurry?... Well, I think you are a slave you want to escape.

PATRICK
Well, actually I am.

CAPTAIN
I`m not taking a slave in my boat!

( Statek próbuje odbić od brzegu, ale psy znajdujące się na pokładzie zaczynają tak głośno ujadać, że statek musi ponownie przybić do brzegu. Sytuacja powtarza sie 3- krotnie. )

PATRICK
If you let me on the boat, I will make sure that the dogs will settle.

CAPTAIN
OK, but if you are lying we`ll throw you overboard.

( Patryk wchodzi na pokład i psy milkną. )

PART IV

( Pojawia się osoba z napisem: A YEAR LATER- IN WALES )

PATRICK
( Śpi. Budzi go głos. )

THE VOICE
Patrick! Patrick! Go back to Ireland and tell the Irish pagans all about Jesus!

PATRICK
Well, I think I should become a priest.

( Pojawia się osoba z napisem: ENGLAND . )

PATRICK
Dear Holy Father! I`ve heard the unusual voice twice in my life. For the first time it ordered me to escape when I was an Irish slave. Then , it wanted me to tell the Irish pagans about Jesus.

THE POPE
It was definately God. I`m going to send you to Ireland.

PART V

( Wchodzi osoba z napisem: IRELAND- THE HOLIDAY OF SPRING`S COMING )

KING`S MAN
Today is the special night. On this night our king lights the fire first and then everybody wiil see it and light theirs.

( Patryk rozpala ognisko na brzegu wyspy .)

KING`S MAN
Look! That must be the king`s fire! Let`s start lighting our fires.

KING
I didn`t lit my fire yet. Go to this place and bring me this man who has broken the law!

( Żołnierze królewscy podchodzą do Patryka. )

KING`S MAN
You are under arrest! You`ve broken the law and lit your fire before the king.
( Zabiera Patryka ze skrępowanymi dłońmi ze sceny. )

KING`S MAN
Dear king! Something strange happens in our country. We are not able to light any fire!

KING
Bring me that man who has broken the law!

( Wprowadzają Patryka )

KING
I can see your God is really on your side. I let you speak about your God to the Irish people.

PATRICK
( Pokazuje trójlistną koniczynę. )
How many leaves are there?

KING`S MAN
Three leaves.

PATRICK
And how many seeds were needed to make this plant?

KING`S MAN
Only one.

PATRICK
Look, people! The shamrock is like the idea of the blessed trinity- that in the one God there are three divine beings: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.

KING
You used our sacred shamrock to explain the Trinity, so you must be a very wise man. I let you preach to anybody who would listen to you.

PART VI

( Pojawia się osoba z napisem: 17 TH MARCH 493 YEAR- SABHALL IN COUNTY DOWN )

PATRICK
( Leży na łożu śmierci. Unosi się, podpiera na łokciu i mówi: )

I spent sixty years in Ireland. During that time I consecrated three hundred and fifty bishops to follow my ways. I built a small church in the north of Ireland. Now it`s time to come back to my Father`s Home.
